Artist and former Parks Canada Park Warden Pete Clarkson has had enough adventures to fill an entire podcast series! In addition to making waves around the world with his colourful and inspiring marine debris artwork, Pete has worked in two of the most iconic National Parks in Canada and raised three kids with his wife in the beautiful town of Tofino.
Now that Pete’s kids are adults, he takes us through his family’s journey from the mountains to the ocean.
Tune in to hear:
About Pete’s amazing career, starting on horseback in the backcountry of Jasper, to the shorelines of Tofino, and around the world as an artist
How Pete and Jen approached kids’ organised activities in a small town with few facilities
One of the absolute wildest “when things went wrong” stories we’ve had on the podcast (seriously! It was even wilder than the bonkers story shared by Lauren Maclean in this episode)
So much wisdom, lots of great takeaways and a whole bundle of laughs
Check out Pete’s work on his website and on Instagram

How to incorporate nature sketching into your adventure
How we use our 3 “S”s to keep the kids moving (plus a bonus 2 additional “S”s suggested by our listeners)

Did you grow up spending time in the outdoors? If you didn’t, you’re not alone. As adults, it can be hard for us to pick up the skills we need so that we can go on amazing outdoor adventures.
Today we are talking to Christina Tutsch from the Wonder Outdoor School on the Sunshine Coast here in B.C. all about how adults can learn skills that will help them explore the outdoors (safely!). We also had a great conversation about risk and our kids, and Christina shared her advice from years of outdoor education.
Tune in to hear:
How you can learn real, practical skills to spend more time outside
How to introduce your kids to risky play
How to think about risk as a dial, rather than an on/off switch
Why Christina opened the Wonder Outdoor School (and how it’s filling a real gap in outdoor education)

Wednesday Aug 31, 2022
Wednesday Aug 31, 2022
Let’s be honest, kids are not always excited about hiking. If they’re anything like our kids, the allure of their favourite playground might be so strong that they outright refuse to go hiking. So today we’re applying some marketing tactics to the problem! Tune in to hear:
The words we use to pique their interest, and the “h” word that we definitely DON’T use
The things we pop in our backpack to encourage their curiosity
How hiking with friends helps us
The trick our guest Tammie Bennet from @showupsociety shared when she was on the show (listen to her episode here)
How reading books about hiking and camping can help

Stories, gear and a lot of mistakes
Getting outside to go hiking, camping, or even just walking with kids can be intimidating. There is so much gear, tons of things that can go wrong and everyone else seems to know what they're doing. But we have found that parenting is so much easier when we have more fresh air, more activity and more adventure.
We are definitely not experts, but we've learned a thing or two over the years. Maybe you can learn from our messy, muddy mistakes!
Recording from Port Moody, BC, Canada, we would love to hear from you! What do you love about getting outdoors with your kids? What challenges are you facing? Connect with us on Instagram.
